Movement and the Single Screen

Submitted by sally reay on Wed, 19/12/2007 - 15:01.

27-29 January - Bristol - £80

This practical workshop investigates movement and performance within the context of single-screen video practice and is led by artist filmmaker Miranda Pennell.

Participants will explore a range of formal ideas through a combination of screenings, discussions and practical research. In particular, attention will be paid to the specificity of video/film language in its relationship to movement composition and performance, and to the nature of cross-art form dialogue. The emphasis of the workshop is on experimentation and on collaboration.

Over the first two days, each of four sessions will begin with a short video screening as a focus for a discussion led by course leader Miranda Pennell. Participants will then work in small groups to explore specific ideas around movement, performance and the camera, using equipment supplied by Picture This. Each session will conclude with a sharing of work in progress and peer-group feedback within a supportive environment. The third day will focus on generating scores for cross-art form dialogue, and will be informed by the participants' interests and specialisms.

At the end of the first day, artist John Wood (of Wood and Harrison) will present and discuss their latest commission (Capture) and will be available to answer questions from participants about the new video works.

Who is this aimed at?

The workshop is aimed at live artists, dance/physical/theatre-artists, visual artists and film and video makers, who can demonstrate a solid level of professional experience and creative ability within their own medium or specialism. (nb. Please note that this is not a course aimed at offering general technical or production training).
