Training: Making the most of your website

Submitted by sally reay on Wed, 19/12/2007 - 14:51.

23 January - Watershed Media Centre, Bristol - £15, Bursaries available for organisers of Open Studios and Art Trail events

Most artists, groups and organisations have some form of representation on the internet whether it is a complex, content-managed site or a few pages hosted on a third party site. But are these sites working the way they should for you or your organisation?

While the cost implications of designing, hosting and maintaining a complex site can be considerable, a clear understanding of the effectiveness of fundamental principles can greatly reduce the costs of creating and maintaining even the simplest site, drive more people to your site, and better represent your real purpose on the web.

So come along and find out:
• What principles make a site "good" or "bad"
• How you can have a web presence without the cost of a custom web site
• What is "Social Networking" and how can it help you?
• How to optimise and upload images for the web (on your own laptop)
• How to write strong copy for the web
• How to optimise your website so that the search engines will find you
• And how www.southwestopenstudios.org can help you

Pete Francomb and John Ryan from web development company Engino, and Sally Reay from South West Open Studios will make this a fascinating, non-geeky and really useful day combined with a good lunch and an opportunity to network.

Booking: please email jackie@southwestopenstudios.org

Additional Information:
* If you would like more information about the course or to find out if it will be relevant to you, Pete Francomb will be happy to call you to discuss.
* If you have your own laptop, please bring it with you.

This training is delivered by South West Open Studios as part of the Skills Development Programme, generously funded by the South West Regional Development Agency.

South West Open Studios (SWOS) aims to promote and support the development and sustainability of artists' Open Studio and Art Trail organisations in the South West and through them, the artists and makers of the region. To find out more visit www.southwestopenstudios.org.
