1. EASTON & ST WERBURGHS ARTS TRAIL – SATURDAY 30 JUNE & SUNDAY 1 JULY

This year artists, makers and performers in Easton and St Werburghs have joined forces, holding their annual arts trails on Saturday 30 June & Sunday 1 July. There will be art installations and creative interventions connecting the two communities that sit either side of the M32.

EASTON

Over 85 artists, makers and performers will be taking part in group art exhibitions, performances and workshops at the Easton Community Centre, Silai for Skills and Kebele Community Cooperative. There are also art exhibitions in open houses, gardens, cafes and in St Marks Road Baptist Church.

The Easton Arts Trail programme includes a diverse range of free adult and children’s creative workshops including Brazilian Percussion with Bacana Arts and Willow Weaving with Eastside Community Garden Centre at The Trinity Community Arts Centre, and Calligraphy, Glass and Tile Painting, Egyptian Dance and ‘Carnival of Animals’ workshops at the Easton Community Centre. There is a range of free textile workshops taking place at Silai for Skills too.

The Easton Arts Trail will also include art interventions, live music, live art and street art in the streets and alleyways of Easton. This free event is open to everyone. Visit www.eastonartstrail.co.uk for full details of artists, makers and performers taking part and to download the event map and music, workshops and performance programmes.

ST WERBURGHS

This year's trail features over 50 artists, all with local connections. With 22 venues including houses, studios, the community centre, the city farm café and the local primary school. There will even be art in the park and on local allotments.

The art trail includes a wide range of artwork such as pottery and ceramics, sculptures, jewellery, drawings, photography, textiles, mixed media and much more.

Look out for the Diamond Shaped Flags outside all the venues. You can pick up a brochure with details of all the venues and the map either from local shops before the weekend or from the venues during the art trail.

2. THEATRE BRISTOL OPEN SPACE – SATURDAY 21 JULY

Following the Bristol Old Vic's recent announcement of closure for emergency refurbishment, and in order to provide a neutral space for people to talk about the situation for Theatre in Bristol, Theatre Bristol is holding an Open Space event at Circomedia, Portland Square in Bristol on Saturday 21st July 2007.

Open Space has been used productively all over the world. It will be a dynamic open-ended event that enables a self-organising group to use its collective imagination to deal with complex issues and it will achieve this in an incredibly short space of time. A strong point of Open Space is its ability to unite groups of enormous diversity. To that end they are encouraging all participants.

For more information visit www.theatrebristol.co.uk for more information.

3. ASHTON COURT SECRET GARDEN – CREATIVE WORKSHOPS

This year Ashton Court Festival is creating a new area called Secret Garden, it will be a community/family/creative/alternative area with a more chilled out atmosphere. An alternative to the full-on music orientated stages that have previously dominated the festival. As well as having a tipi with acoustic music, spoken word, and hopefully a ceildh, there will also be a healing area, community garden/allotment input, storytelling and a labyrinth. The organisers also want to set up a marquee for art workshops. If you're interested in running creative workshops at the festival then they’d like to hear from you. This project is being run on a shoestring with payment of guest passes and expenses only.

For further information on the programme visit www.bristolstories.org. These screenings are free - please collect a ticket from Box Office on the day.

10. WARNING: EMAIL SCAMS TARGET ARTISTS

There are a number of email 'art scams' doing the rounds at the moment - it seems like a lot of local artists have received scam emails purporting to want to buy several paintings/pieces of art in one order from several different email accounts.

Please be suspicious of anything that seems even a bit too good to be true, such as buying more than people normally do, especially in one go. This is likely to be some sort of cheque scam, so don’t waste your time.
